Sonu Sood, the versatile actor and humanitarian, has ventured into the world of filmmaking as a director with his latest project, Fateh. The film's trailer was launched on Monday in Mumbai, and it marks a new chapter in Sonu’s career. Speaking at the trailer launch event, Sonu shared insights into his journey of making this film, describing the evolution of the project, its challenges, and his unique experience as both a producer and director.
Sonu began by sharing how the journey of Fateh started almost three years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when cyber frauds were on the rise and people were struggling to stay connected. “The journey of this film started almost three years ago… during the COVID era, when people were coming together, and a lot of cyber frauds were happening. This is where the story began,” he said.
“We were thinking of introducing the film in a way that would be fresh, something different from what the audience had seen,” Sonu added. “When the script started coming together, we never thought about shooting in America or Dubai with Hollywood’s top technicians, including Oscar-winning talents. Slowly, everyone came together, and today we have the film Fateh to present to you.”
For Sonu, the heart of the film lies in the story itself. “The story of the film is above everything else. It’s not just about me; it’s the collective effort of so many people,” he said
Sonu also explained why he chose to direct an action film for his debut. He’s known for his roles in action-packed films, and his experience in this genre has shaped his decision. “I’ve done action throughout my life, and I’ve learned so much from it. Every film teaches you something new, and with every film, I found myself thinking, ‘If I did this, it would be better.’” He admitted that as an actor, he couldn't always voice these thoughts on set, but as a producer, writer, and director, he had the freedom to make his vision a reality.
“When you’re an actor, you can’t always push your ideas; you can’t always say, ‘This is what should be done.’ But when you are a producer, writing and directing the film, there are no limits. You can do anything,” Sonu explained. “After the film is finished, you can even add things that make it better.”
Fateh directed by Sonu Sood will hit the cinemas on January 10, 2025.
